Sisters of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (SVM) is the first religious congregation in the archeparchy of Kottayam. It was founded by the Servant of God Mar Mathew Makil on 24th June 1892 in Kaipazha on the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, with the permission and blessings of Bishop Charles Levigne S.J. the first Vicar Apostolic of the Vicariate of Kottayam. SVM is a religious congregation of women in the Syro-Malabar Church. Today there are 604 sisters in this congregation working in Kerala and outside and also abroad.
Our Charism
The charism of SVM is to follow Jesus, gentle and humble as mother Mary, lead the people of God especially the women to His salvific love and to attain Christian perfection through religious life.
Our Identity
SVM sisters are called and consecrated to be in union with God as was Blessed Virgin Mary and experience the gentle and humble love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Our Goal
To become spiritual mothers by experiencing perfect joy and participating in the meek and sweet love that was perfected on the cross of Christ.
Spirituality
SVM Spirituality is based on the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and modelled after the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
